Camiguin Island is a unique combination of unspoiled beauty and old world charm. Often described as the most beautiful island in the Philippines, Camiguin is a place of contrast. Rugged, majestic volcanic mountains rise sharply into the clouds, while below, gentle turquoise seas lap soft white sands. Waterfalls thunder down into pristine pools surrounded by wild ferns and orchids. The island has a pristine lagoon, refreshing cold springs, invigorating hot springs, and soothing, sparkling soda springs.

Centuries old Spanish ruins contrast with modern comfortable hotels and resorts. Ancestral rustic wooden houses buzz with the sound of cable television and the regions newest telephone system.

Camiguin has all the modern necessities, but retains "All of nature's best."

Geography and Climate
Camiguin Island is located 714 km south of Manila, just off the tip of Northern Mindanao. It has a total land area of 292 sq. km. with over 4,000 ha. of forests. The climate is tropical, but mild with rain fairly evenly spread over the nine months from July to March.

People
The people of Camiguin play host to a large number of visitors every year. They are traditionally warm and hospitable. Most speak English and they have the highest literacy rate in the region. Most of the islands inhabitants are devout Roman Catholics and hold colorful festivals each year in honor of their Patron Saints.

Infrastructure
The completion of a new airport on the Island and the commencement of a fast ferry service from the regional capital: Cagayan de Oro, have made Camiguin Island very accessible. Reliable 220 v electricity and potable water are abundant and the island has a newly installed, digital direct dial telephone system. Popular cellular phone companies also serve some parts of the island. Cable television and Internet access are also available.

A number of small hotels and resorts currently operate in Camiguin, and there is room for growth in this area, particularly to cater for the higher end of the market.

Visitors flock to Camiguin all year round and numbers are steadily increasing. Colorful festivities honoring Patron Saints and other festivals held at different times of the year are additional drawcards for both local and international tourists.

A number of national banks hold office in the island's capital Mambajao and all government departments have offices in nearby Cagayan de Oro City.

Tourism
Although agriculture has been the dominant industry in Camiguin Island, Tourism is emerging as the potential export earner for the island. Camiguin's long isolation enabled a number of unique plant and animal species to survive the island, making it one of the few true eco-tourism destinations left in the region.

The rare combination of breathtaking natural beauty, well preserved rustic history and local activities make Camiguin Island an ideal holiday location and retirement haven.

Surely, the Island beckons one and all to come, and come again, to Camiguin.
